The 5 best players in Boston Cannons history

There is no question as to who's #1, but the other players on the top 5 list are up for debate.

The Boston Cannons have had a number of superstars on their team and the 2011 MLL Championship squad had a ton of talent.

The best may still be yet to come in Boston, but so far, these are the 5 best players in franchise history.

5. D Brodie Merrill

Defenseman Brodie Merrill has played four full seasons with the Boston Cannons with 39 regular season games played. In those games, Merrill has 16 points while remaining a force on D. Merrill is one of the best to ever play in the MLL and the end of his career in Boston has been spectacular.

4. G Jordan Burke

Goalie Jordan Burke helped the Boston Cannons make a run at the 2011 MLL title. In the regular season, he had a 7-3 record and 10.60 goals against average. He stepped it up a bit in the playoffs playing all 120 minutes while earning a 14-12 and 10-9 victory. The Cannons beat Hamilton for the championship, and they couldn’t have done so without Burke.

Burke spent all six of his MLL seasons close to home as a Boston, MA native and Brown graduate. He compiled a 12.50 GAA and a 34-27 record. He will always be remembered for his play in 2011 though.

3. D Mitch Belisle

Mitch Belisle has been in Boston since 2009 and he’s on the leaderboard for the most games played in league history at 118. After two seasons in Los Angeles, Belisle came to Boston and has been a dominant and consistent player on defense. He won’t rack up many points (3 career points) but he will make sure he makes it tough on opponents. The success is hard to track for defensive players in lacrosse, but Belisle has claimed his spot as the best defender to lace up the cleats for the Cannons.

2. A Ryan Boyle

Attackman Ryan Boyle spent six seasons as a player for the Cannons. In 70 regular season games, he tallied 208 points or 2.97 per game. Boyle also scooped up 88 ground balls in those games.

Boyle played in 5 playoff games for Boston with 6 goals and 6 assists. In his best season for the Cannons, Boyle had 58 points for Boston. That came in 2012 with 19 goals and 39 assists. He was a player that found ways to make those around him better, and that was huge when the best player in Cannons’ history made his way onto the team.

1. M Paul Rabil

Paul Rabil made his MLL debut with the Boston Cannons in 2008 and he played there through 2015 before leaving for New York. He had 5 seasons over 50 points with a career-high 72 in 2012. Rabil was a key piece of the 2011 championship puzzle as he had 50 regular season points and 4 points in the playoffs that season.

Rabil had 354 points in just 82 regular season games for the Cannons, which averages out to an incredible 4.31 points per game. He was electric, and every time he took the field you knew you had the chance to see something special.

The Cannons have a number of players hoping to wedge their way onto this list with an MLL Championship Game run in 2018. Their season will get underway on Saturday, April 21st in Charlotte. Their first home game will be played on Cinco de Mayo when they host the Dallas Rattlers.
