Well that didn’t take too long….🙄
In their 80th regular season game – in this one of the longest and most frustrating seasons in recent memory – the Celtics have finally figured it out.
Game number 80 looked like what most assumed the 79 preceding games would look like.
It was a game the Celtics absolutely had to have to have a realistic shot at home court for at least a round in the Playoffs. And the men in green delivered, rolling into Indiana and absolutely curb stomping the Pacers 117-97.
The Celtics got a near perfect performance from Gordon Hayward (21 pts, 9-9 FG) who is playing by far his best basketball of the season at just the right time.

“He’s playing really well,” Boston coach Brad Stevens said after the game. “He’s attacking with great physicality. It’s good that he’s playing this way. He’ll have a lot of opportunities where he’ll make plays for himself, but more so for others.”

Boston is now 6-0 this season when Hayward scores 20-plus points.
The Celtics also got 22 points from Jayson Tatum. Kyrie Irving had 17 points and six assists, while Al Horford, Aron Baynes and Marcus Morris each scored 11 points.
The Celtics won without Jaylen Brown (back spasms) and Terry Rozier who left the game early with an illness.
With the victory, the Celtics moved into sole possession of fourth place in the East, one game up on Indiana with two to play. The Philadelphia 76ers (49-30) now hold a 1.5-game lead over Boston for the 3 seed.
Not only is this win big in terms of playoff standings, the #Celtics dominance will have a serious mental impact in the first round.
To go on the road and win by 20 when the stakes are this high…what more of a confidence-boost could this team ask for? @CelticsCLNS

More importantly the Celtics have clearly asserted their superiority over their likely first round opponent with three straight regular season victories including two in the last week.
