Not much solace to be found in the Bruins gut-wrenching Game 7 loss to the St. Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup Final.

But as the old adage goes – which served every local Boston fanbase well pre-2001 – “wait till next year.”

According to the online gambling site BetOnline.ag the Bruins have the second-best odds at 9-1 (along with the Vegas Golden Knights) at winning the Stanley Cup in 2020.

The Tampa Bay Lightning – who finished the regular season with BY FAR the best overall record in hockey yet were swept in the first round by the Columbus Blue Jackets) are 1st at 8-1.

2020 Stanley Cup Odds
Tampa Bay Lightning 8/1
Boston Bruins 9/1
Vegas Golden Knights 9/1
Toronto Maple Leafs 10/1
Colorado Avalanche 12/1
St. Louis Blues 12/1

In the “nothing is ever easy” Northeast Division the Toronto Maple Leafs are 4th at 10-1. ThBas for the Bruins ruins’ best shot at winning the Cup with their core that includes Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Zdeno Chara and Tuukka Rask. With the upcoming summer e defending Cup Champion St. Louis Blues are tied for 5th along with the Colorado Avalanche.

The Bruins are likely to return a similar team next season. Restricted free agents Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo will get pid but should return. The only big time UFA will be Marcus Johansson who the Bruins probably won’t be able to afford.

As for the Bruins core of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Zdeno Chara, they are all gettng up their in age but along with the younger players could have enough in the tank for another Cup run next season. Marchand talked about that after the Game 7 loss.

“Yeah, I mean, you never know when you’ll get that chance again. It could be the last one for all of us, but yeah, you know, when you’re that close, and it doesn’t happen, it hurts.”

Hurt now, but tomorrow is a new day, and next season the Bruins could and should be back contending for another shot at the Cup.
