Celtics NBA Title Odds Plummet w/ Likely Kyrie Irving Departure

The online gambling site BetOnline.ag has the Celtics listed as 20-1 longshots to win the 2020 NBA title.

One day after it was reported that Kyrie Irving was ‘preparing’ to join the Brooklyn Nets as a free agent the Celtics NBA title chances took a serious hit.

According to the online gambling site BetOnline.ag has the Celtics listed as 20-1 long-shots.

The Milwaukee Bucks – who lost to the eventual NBA Champion Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals – are the early favorites.

The Golden State Warriors are second even though they could be without Kevin Durant & Klay Thompson either due to injury or of either opts to depart in free agency. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thompson is not expected to be ready until February or March, while Durant’s could miss the entire season after he ruptured his Achilles on Monday.

2020 NBA Championship Odds
Milwaukee Bucks   9/2
Golden State Warriors   5/1
Los Angeles Lakers   7/1
Toronto Raptors   8/1
Houston Rockets   9/1
Los Angeles Clippers   12/1
Philadelphia 76ers   14/1
Boston Celtics   20/1
Brooklyn Nets   20/1

The Los Angeles Lakers are 3rd so oddsmakers clearly think they are the likely destination for Anthony Davis or perhaps some other big name star to pair with LeBron James who will be fully healed from his groin injury.

The Raptors are 4th, despite just winning the title. The Philadelphia 76ers are 6th with the Celtics and (Kyrie’s likely new team) the Brooklyn Nets tied for 7th.

A lot of this can change as several teams await to see what their future holds. If the Celtics lose Irving as is expected they will take a big step talent wise. But they were within one win of the NBA Finals two years ago without Irving and Gordon Hayward so who’s to say they can’t do it again?
