The source also confirmed that Summer League standout <strong>Justin Jackson\u00a0<\/strong>and Maine Celtics guard from this past season\u00a0<strong>Denzel Valentine\u00a0<\/strong>will join the team this preseason, as had been previously reported.<\/p>\n<p>The trio of signings will bring the team&#8217;s offseason roster total to 19, one short of the limit, including 12 players signed to regular season deals, a pair of two-way players in\u00a0<strong>JD Davison\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong>Mfiondu Kabengel<\/strong><strong>e<\/strong>, as well as Layman, Caboclo, Vonleh, Valentine and Jackson. The Celtics have assessed the market for possible replacements following\u00a0<strong>Danilo Gallinari&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>ACL tear last month, but have remained patient as training camp looms. The team has three open roster spots available to offer internal and free agent options, along with a pair of trade exceptions worth $5.9 million and $6.9 million to absorb contracts in trades.<\/p>\n<p>Layman, a 6-8 forward who last played for the Timberwolves, is an option to join the field of wings now headlined by\u00a0<strong>Sam Hauser<\/strong>. He&#8217;s a career 46% shooter, averaging 4.6 points per game in 12.3 minutes for Portland before scoring 5.1 PPG in a small bump with Minnesota. Layman shot 8-for-35 from three last season (22.9%), is a career 30% from deep and peaked from 2018-2020 at 32.8% on 253 tries. He&#8217;s a good finisher at the rim, finishing a career-best 77.3% inside three feet last year in 34 appearances and shot 72.2% on free throws.<\/p>\n<p>The Massachusetts native grew up in Norwood and attended King Phillip Regional High School in Wrentham before playing for Maryland from 2012-2016.
