The Patriots did a great job plugging holes in their roster during free agency<\/a>. Nearly every player from last year\u2019s defense will be returning in 2023, and the offense made solid upgrades at pass-catcher while adding necessary depth at offensive tackle and running back.<\/p>\n

Still, there are spots on the roster that need to be addressed. There is no obvious heir to Jakobi Meyers\u2019 top receiver role,<\/a> both tackle spots could use an infusion of youth, and the cornerback room lacks a reliable starter above 5\u201911\u201d. Luckily, this draft class is loaded at positions where New England should be looking to add young talent come April 27th when the NFL Draft begins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This \u2018Perfect Patriots\u201d series will explore prospects all over the draft who would be great in New England based on scheme, team needs, and positional value. This week, we\u2019re taking a look at fits who could be around late in the draft.<\/p>\n

WR RONNIE BELL, MICHIGAN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Expert’s Take<\/strong><\/p>\n

“A four-year starter at Michigan, Bell was an inside and outside receiver in head coach Jim Harbaugh\u2019s pro-style spread offense. After missing the 2021 season with a torn ACL, he worked his way back and posted career bests in every receiving category, leading the Wolverines in receiving for the third time in the past four seasons. Bell\u2019s basketball background is evident with his smooth steps and movements and the way he leaps, floats and attacks the football. However, he is quicker than fast with only average acceleration through contact and out of stems, which is tough to overcome vs. NFL coverage.”<\/em><\/p>\n

How He Fits<\/strong><\/p>\n

As much as the Patriots need a dynamic receiver who can scare defenses, Jakobi Meyers’ departure left significant voids in terms of leadership and reliability.\u00a0Bell won’t wow anyone with his measurables or testing numbers, but he’s a day 3 prospect who brings intelligence, four-down value, and outstanding character.<\/p>\n

Bell reminds me of Dola; high-end WR3, does the little things consistently, + awareness and competitiveness, and can returns punts. Modest athlete, but a good route runner<\/p>\n
