He double-checked what the word meant before testing each leg out at the team\u2019s TD Garden practice, leaning back on each as he tossed up shots. It wasn\u2019t the one he\u2019d use to describe how he feels.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ic8bnw\">Something, again, held the big man back from hyping his comeback.<\/p>\n<p id=\"onFOdY\">After committing to return for the beginning of the Finals, Porzi\u0146\u0123is noted the challenge ahead entering the highest level of the playoffs having not played in the previous two series. He isn\u2019t cautious or nervous about playing, either, but doesn\u2019t know how it\u2019ll go.<\/p>\n<p id=\"MYLZum\">\u201cI haven\u2019t played for a while,\u201d Porzi\u0146\u0123is said. \u201cTomorrow will be my first minutes in a while. I did as much as I could to prepare for this moment, but there\u2019s nothing like game minutes and game experience that I\u2019m gonna get tomorrow. So it\u2019ll be tough to jump into the Finals like this, but I did everything I could to prepare for it and we\u2019ll see tomorrow night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"DuP1TP\">The\u00a0Celtics\u00a0removed Porzi\u0146\u0123is from the injury report after their final practice before Game 1 on Wednesday. While minutes restrictions and his role aren\u2019t clear yet, Joe Mazzulla expects to plug him right back into action without any issue aside from rust. Rhythm and conditioning could all play a part in how he fits into the group that went 9-1 without him. The physical concerns appear behind him over five weeks after suffering the soleus strain in Miami during Game 4 of the first round.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Analyzing Kristaps Porzingis Comments About Playing in Game 1 of NBA Finals | Garden Report\" width=\"788\" height=\"443\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m1SRvaGQjSk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Several doctors who gave their outside analysis noted their confidence \u2014 even before Porzi\u0146\u0123is spoke for the first time this week \u2014 about his timeframe being enough to play in the Finals. They cautioned the challenges associated with it, too, including him possibly not being 100%, a question Porzi\u0146\u0123is didn\u2019t answer, the risk of aggravation and the particular demand basketball places on that muscle in a seven-footer. <strong>Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/strong> said he didn\u2019t come close to running at full speed over three weeks into his soleus recovery. Porzi\u0146\u0123is feels good, but didn\u2019t get to play in real games before the Finals \u2014 sounding as concerned about jumping into this spot than playing basketball in general.<\/p>\n<p id=\"Bu9noR\">\u201cI think the medical staff would not put me out there if they wouldn\u2019t be confident that I\u2019ll be good,\u201d Porzi\u0146\u0123is said. \u201cI\u2019ve done the things necessary to check the boxes and that\u2019s it. Of course, it\u2019s hard to imitate the same intensity in practice. That intensity is going to be a completely different level. I have to be confident that it\u2019ll be alright.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"omQ7aK\">The Celtics tried to ramp him up in recent days from what he and others with the team described as lighter workloads earlier in his rehab. Porzi\u0146\u0123is didn\u2019t participate in team shootarounds during the Indiana series, the only practice environment during the tightly packed east finals schedule. He, instead, shot on the side with Boston\u2019s performance staff. <strong>Luke Kornet<\/strong> noted that Porzi\u0146\u0123is\u2019 recent practices featured contact, defensive situations and live up-and-down action. A far leap \u2014 no offense to Dobbins.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mMkdBb\">Kornet, Mazzulla, <strong>Jrue Holiday<\/strong> and <strong>Al Horford<\/strong> all felt confident in the work they\u2019ve seen from Porzi\u0146\u0123is and encouraged him during their recent interviews. Horford lauded how Porzi\u0146\u0123is lives up to the moment come game time, an eagerness to get past the trial environments that Porzi\u0146\u0123is also expressed. Holiday stressed how much the Celtics want him back and being part of their success.<\/p>\n<p id=\"q1Syaw\">For whatever concerns exist about re-injury,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonsportsjournal.com\/2024\/06\/01\/nba-notebook-doctors-say-kristaps-porzingis-finals-return-possible-but-not-at-100\">Dr. Adam Tenforde explained<\/a>\u00a0that Boston\u2019s staff likely put Porzi\u0146\u0123is through an extensive strength program to support not just the Achilles, the common ligament many worry about with a calf injury, but all the associate muscles that a calf deficiency could expose. There\u2019s more time between games. There\u2019s more on the line. It\u2019s a sprint, and all we\u2019ve seen from Porzi\u0146\u0123is, at least publicly, is a jog. He\u2019ll try to break into his stride on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"suCTGW\">\u201cI\u2019ve come back from multiple injuries, I\u2019ve had these first games back,\u201d he said. \u201cOf course, not at this stage, but in the end, it\u2019s just basketball. Of course, the intensity is a little bit higher, but I have to go out there and play like it\u2019s basketball a game, an important basketball game, and that\u2019s it. I don\u2019t need to overthink.
