That left <strong>Kristaps Porzi\u0146\u0123is<\/strong> popping, trailing or otherwise open to shoot three after three. On a night where he finished 8-for-14, wrapping up a month where he\u2019s shooting over 50% from three, it looked like the formula that should always drive Boston\u2019s offense.<\/p>\n<p id=\"9nRbYE\">Just have Porzi\u0146\u0123is take and make everything.<\/p>\n<p id=\"DO6j0L\">\u201cHonestly, today I didn\u2019t feel perfect,\u201d he said after scoring a season high 34 points. \u201cBefore the game, my energy was not crazy, but sometimes you have good games like that &#8230; tonight was a game where I was gonna get the shots. It was a matter of whether I was gonna make them or not, and they were going in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Are We CONCERNED About Jayson Tatum&#039;s January Struggles?\" width=\"788\" height=\"443\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AQ-JUmkQVEg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p id=\"zn7pN3\">Instead, it\u2019s been a make-or-miss season for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.celticsblog.com\/\">Celtics<\/a> \u2014 even for Porzi\u0146\u0123is when he first returned. Despite a shot profile that <strong>Joe Mazzulla<\/strong> approves, the Celtics have witnessed their worst results this month with a 9-6 record.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clnsmedia.com\/celtics-adjust-rotations-for-jaylen-brown-and-jayson-tatum\/\">Tatum, shooting 42.4% this month, and Jaylen Brown (42.5% FG) swapped rotation spots hoping for better results.<\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"Rglmkl\">Following a season where targeting mismatches and urgent selflessness made a new-look team instantly flow, 2024-25 has at times looked like what you would\u2019ve expected last year: a struggle to figure out where and when shots will come from with such a talented roster.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Tatum ISO slow down. \" src=\"https:\/\/streamable.com\/o\/keoo4u#?secret=K2lMSZx3aV\" data-secret=\"K2lMSZx3aV\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p id=\"Dor8tr\">Porzi\u0146\u0123is\u2019 return exacerbated that challenge. It\u2019s easy to forget he wasn\u2019t a significant part of the playoff picture last off-season or the opening month of this regular season after surgery.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yYeezn\">\u201cIt\u2019s not so much about playing with (Porzi\u0146\u0123is),\u201d Mazzulla said. \u201cIt\u2019s how people are defending him, how people treat him, so the adjustment is how people impact him, because he has the ability to play inside and out. So it\u2019s not so much that we gotta get used to playing with him, and that\u2019s for everybody. We gotta get used to playing with guys depending on how they\u2019re defending and attacking us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Getting Porzingis going while four watch. \" src=\"https:\/\/streamable.com\/o\/30irpz#?secret=24IGGVL1eu\" data-secret=\"24IGGVL1eu\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Houston went even further to take Tatum out of Monday\u2019s loss, throwing crowds around him that held him scoreless in a half for the first time since 2021-22. Mazzulla responded by playing Tatum the entire second half, which helped him score 15 points in the third quarter. As Mazzulla noted previously, it\u2019s not about getting one player going. Their matchup-based attack allows the team to naturally focus on getting the ball to the best spot and leaves the coaches without the responsibility of dictating shot totals.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Good stuff with Tatum vs. the mismatch \" src=\"https:\/\/streamable.com\/o\/zai2u9#?secret=GscnSCxveV\" data-secret=\"GscnSCxveV\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That can often leave one of the stars out of the action, especially when the offense slows. Boston ranks 29th in pace this month and it shows. That leaves less possessions and a smaller pie to share. When all their starters take the floor together, they can devolve into setting up the matchup then watching one player go to work. The Celtics rank third in offense this month and third in season-long isolation efficiency, but it\u2019s worth wondering what impact the nightly disparity in opportunity has on the energy level for those not involved.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"LIVE Garden Report: Celtics vs Bulls Postgame Show\" width=\"788\" height=\"443\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w1Bb9wvGL5Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p id=\"QTf9Jo\">\u201cWhen the ball\u2019s moving, I think everybody\u2019s getting shots, everybody\u2019s getting good looks. And that\u2019s when we\u2019re at our best,\u201d <strong>Sam Hauser<\/strong> said earlier this month. \u201cBecause everyone can contribute in different ways to this team. When the ball\u2019s moving, everyone able to showcase what they bring to the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"BD1e6B\">For all the talk about rotations, shot totals and the dynamic between Brown and Tatum, they could both benefit from more activity between each other when they both share the floor.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Good Tatum-Kornet-Brown action. \" src=\"https:\/\/streamable.com\/o\/le6adh#?secret=xB6SERlI0V\" data-secret=\"xB6SERlI0V\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Their average passes between each other per game floated back above even this month, matching last year\u2019s mark, but prior to the west coast trip, that dipped to 7.4 through the first nine January games. During that stretch, they fell to last in team passes made each night, rising to 28th since.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Bad Tatum shot. \" src=\"https:\/\/streamable.com\/o\/fmbzhh#?secret=YVEmcDiosG\" data-secret=\"YVEmcDiosG\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p id=\"p6EYjR\">In eight games since the Celtics switched their rotations, Brown averaged 6.6 points in the first quarter while shooting 56.4%. Tatum\u2019s down to 4.6 on 36.4% FG after averaging 8.3 points on 43.3% shooting in those situations with a full stint. A lack of stoppage left him out of the game for nearly the entire second quarter on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"M4wdJK\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clnsmedia.com\/celtics-showing-success-when-jayson-tatum-is-more-involved\/\">It\u2019s a tough balance for Mazzulla as stats increasingly show this season that more Tatum usage equates to more wins.<\/a>\u00a0The equal opportunity formula worked last season. They won a championship with Tatum managing extra pressure from defenses throughout the playoffs. So it\u2019s understandable why they don\u2019t want to deviate due to a month of poorer shooting.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Tatum to Brown. \" src=\"https:\/\/streamable.com\/o\/pu920v#?secret=mXspQfE8kL\" data-secret=\"mXspQfE8kL\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p id=\"ynfaL6\">Having Porzi\u0146\u0123is positioned between Brown and Tatum\u2019s minutes as an easy target should help. But it doesn\u2019t totally solve the ball movement and shot distribution problems we\u2019ve watched the team have at times.<\/p>\n<p id=\"bSh0u9\">It\u2019s a new year, and while individual players should be able to persevere through slower workload nights to allow for winning, that hasn\u2019t totally been the case this season.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Brown early clock shot. \" src=\"https:\/\/streamable.com\/o\/j9j5na#?secret=bwTv5cwmDB\" data-secret=\"bwTv5cwmDB\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo me, it\u2019s more about finding two-on-ones,\u201d Mazzulla said. \u201cWhen they\u2019re in the blitz, I think our spacing got a little distorted (on Monday) because we were cutting at the wrong time. One time, we hit a seam pass and Luke missed Neemy. So it\u2019s really just reading the two-on-one. It\u2019s actually easier to see the two-on-one on the blitz.
