Turns out Sony Michel’s absence from Patriots mini-camp was more than just maintenance.
The 2018 1st round pick underwent a knee scope, according to the Athletic’s Jeff Howe. Howe reports that Michel is expected to be ready for training camp.
Michel missed all of mini-camp last week though he was on the field with the team during OTAs in May so something must have happened between now and then neccessitating the procedure.
Michel has a history of knee issues dating back to high school. There were also reports that his knee is “bone on bone” and that the situation would require constant management and monitoring.
Michel led the Patriots last season with 209 carries, 931 yards and six touchdowns. He rushed for 336 yards and six touchdowns in the postseason and scored the game’s only touchdown in the Patriots 13-3 Super Bowl LIII victory over the Rams.
The Patriots also have Rex Burkhead, James White, Brandon Bolden and 2019 3rd round draft pick Damien Harris on the depth chart.
Training camp begins on July 25th.
