The Patriots never do crazy unpredictable things.
Except when they do. Or in this case, almost do.
According to NBC Sports Chris Simms the Patriots almost swung a deal last offseason for Giants receiver Odell Beckham.
“The New England Patriots were trying to get Odell Beckham Jr. all last offseason,” he said. “That didn’t work out, and I think the Giants got cold feet and were like, ‘Wait, New England wants him? Uh oh, maybe he is better than we thought. Maybe we should just keep him on our own instead of it being thrown in our face and him going to win a Super Bowl with the Pats.'”

Whether this nearly happened or could happen again remians to be seen.
Beckham is signed through 2023 and if traded his cap hits would be lowered from the $21 million (2019) and $19 million (’20-22) the next four seasons. Which is not all that outrageous given the caliber player he is.
Adding fuel to the fire, Beckham has been active on Tom Brady’s Instagram recently.
So this happened tonight. Crazier things have happened. If the #Giants want to trade Odell, the #Patriots make a lot of sense. His contract is very team friendly. Belichick has a good relationship with the Giants. pic.twitter.com/8HYC1d1EtD

The Patriots of course are still in need of outside receiver help following the indefinite suspension of Josh Gordon. Regardless of whether Gordon is reinstated and/or returns to the Pats it would be impossible to pass up a chance at arguably the most gifted receiver in the league in Beckham, should he be made available this offseason.
