While most NFL eyes right now are focused on the Patriots potential interest in Antonio Brown, the team made a move on the other side of the ball, giving cornerback Jonathan Jones a 3-year/$25 million contract extension. The deal has a base value of $21 million.
Jones, who joined the Patriots as a UDFA in 2016, was set to play this year under an RFA tender, then become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Jones has played 16 games in each of his three seasons with the Patriots. Last year he recorded a career-high three interceptions in the regular season, and played a major role in the AFC Championship game helping the Patriots defense neutralize Tyreek Hill.
With this contract in place, every cornerback on the Patriots roster is now under contract through 2020.
