On the same day the Cleveland Cavaliers tried remaking their team into an NBA title contender on the fly, the Boston Celtics unveiled their newest addition during a 110-104 overtime win at the Washington Wizards.
This nationally televised Celtics-Wizards matchup – Boston’s first visit to the Nation’s Capital since last spring’s Eastern Conference semifinals series – saw new addition Greg Monroe make his much awaited Celtics debut.
Monroe played nearly 20 minutes and chipped in across the box score with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, and was second on the team in plus/minus with a plus-9 net rating.
Kyrie Irving’s three clutch free throws with less than 10 seconds in regulation sent this game to overtime. Irving, still working his way back from injury, ultimately helped ice this game with 7 of Boston’s 12 points in overtime.
