Yesterday afternoon the Red Sox lost to the Tampa Bay Rays by a final of 5-2.  Tyler Glasnow got the win for Tampa while Chris Sale fell to an eye popping 0-5 on the year.

This drops the Sox overall record to a very disappointing 11-17 while the division leading Rays improved to 18-9.

It looked bad from the start as Chris Sale gave up two runs three batters into the game, but he settled down for the most part going seven innings with eight punch outs.

The Sox offense on the other hand looked like they were still sleeping. Their two runs came off of a sac-fly by Mitch Moreland, and a solo shot by rookie Michael Chavis who appears to be the team’s best hitter right now.

Defensive errors also played a huge part in the loss as Rafeal Devers and the aforementioned Chavis both made costly mistakes. Those mistakes allowed three of the Rays five runs to cross the plate.

Tonight, Boston takes on the 14-16 Oakland Athletics. Frankie Montas will be on the hill for the A’s while the Red Sox plan on sending out Eduardo Rodriguez. First pitch is 7:10 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. You can catch the game today on NESN or listen to it at WEEI, 93.7 FM.
