From falling into the Boston Celtics’ laps as the 10th pick in the 98’ draft to Finals MVP in ’08 to this momentous day nearly 10 years later, Paul Pierce’s No. 34 jersey will be raised to the TD Garden rafters today alongside the true greats in franchise history.
The fact that Pierce’s honor comes in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James – arguably his greatest rival – makes this day that much sweeter.
Plus, Cleveland’s lineup will look much different than the last time these two teams met on Jan. 3.
The Cavs started Jose Calderon, J.R. Smith, Kevin Love, Crowder and James in that game, a 102-88 Celtics win. According to Cavs head coach Ty Lue, the Cavs will go with George Hill, J.R. Smith, James, Cedi Osman and Tristan Thompson.
Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance are expected to play.
