Yesterday on the Fourth of July, the Boston Red Sox celebrated by completing a comeback win against the division rival Toronto Blue Jays. They were down 6-1 early, but battled back to grab an 8-7 victory. The big hit for Boston came off the bat of 26-year-old infielder Marco Hernandez who hit a pinch-hit go-ahead home run in the top of the 9th off of Toronto Blue Jays closer Ken Giles.
The 6th inning was when the magic happened for the Sox as they scored six runs, three coming as a result of a Michael Chavis blast that gave them a 7-6 lead. But in the bottom of the 8th, reliever Brandon Workman gave up a run, allowing the Blue Jays to tie the game at 7 a piece. That set up Hernandez up for his climactic blast in the top half of the ninth.
Some other notable performances from the game include a 3-4 effort from Red Sox DH J.D. Martinez, and a two-homer game from Toronto catcher Danny Jansen.
Next up for Boston is a three game series with the Detroit Tigers in Detroit, Michigan. Their set starts tonight at Comerica park as Boston lefty Eduardo Rodriguez faces off with Detroit starter Gregory Soto. You can catch the game tonight at 7:10 by watching on NESN or listening to it on 93.7 WEEI FM.
