The Boston Red Sox have won their third consecutive game, this time beating the Kansas City Royals in an 8-0 rout.
It was Red Sox from the moment the umpire said “Play Ball!” last night. Boston jumped on Royals starter Jacob Junis, knocking home two runs on a Devers ground ball and a Brock Holt single.
After that? It was all Chris Sale.
Sale danced around the fire in the first few innings thanks to stellar defense from Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts. The two each made one spectacular play to cut down Adalberto Mondesi in both the first inning and the third inning.
As for the rest of the night, Sale was brilliant. In fact, it was a much-needed night off for a bullpen that has been worked to the bone over the course of the past few weeks. The veteran Ace went the distance last night, allowing just three hits, no runs, and striking out 12. This effort brought Sale’s season record to 2-7, and saw his ERA drop below 4.00 for the first time since he walked out to the mound for the second inning on Opening Day against the Mariners.
Rafael Devers finished his third consecutive game with a double and a home run, while Jackie Bradley Jr. knocked in three runs as well.
Boston returns to action today at 1:15 pm ET, where Ryan Weber (1-1, 4.50 ERA) will take the mound. You can catch the game on NESN or on WEEI at 93.7 fm radio.
