Murph’s Lock April 11: Game 1: Colorado Avalanche @ Calgary Flames
By no means am I disrespecting all that the Flames accomplished this season in earning the top seed in the Western Conference; however, the read here is they did it with smoke and mirrors and they did it with somewhat good goaltending. Somewhat good goaltending doesn’t get it done in the Stanley Cup playoffs folks and David Rittich and Mike Smith will not get it done for the Flames against the Av’s in both Game 1 and this series.
Colorado’s top line of Gabriel Landeskog-Nathan MacKinnon-Mikko Rantanen is healthy again and while Norris Trophy candidate Mark Giordano is a beat on the blue line, the rest of that Calgary defense is more offensive-minded than defensive. The Av’s top trio should have no problem running their magic and then beating whatever mediocre goalie is between the pipes for the Flames. Also, and speaking of defense, the Colorado D is very underrated and plays together as a cohesive unit. Keep an eye on Tyson Barrie as an x-factor in this series!
