    FOXBORO — The New England Patriots dominated the Detroit Lions 31-3 on Thursday night in the preseason opener. It was a complete team effort, but the backup quarterbacks highlighted the night. Brian Hoyer went 12-for-14 for 147 yards and two touchdowns in less than two quarters. The rookie Jarrett Stidham also impressed, throwing for 179 yards and a touchdown, but showing great accuracy and vision. Sierra Goodwill reports from Foxboro.
