Drew Butler and Nick Bahe of Betonline.ag take a look at this year’s current NBA future odds. With the playoffs just around the corner, the standings are getting close and it is anyone’s title for the taking.
Despite having the best record in the NBA, the Utah Jazz are still not favorited to take home the Larry O’Brien trophy this season. They sit at 42-14 on the season but are dealing with their own form of the injury bug at the moment. Donovan Mitchell just recently went down with an ankle injury, and although x-rays came back negative, the team is having him get an MRI just to be safe.
Regardless of the injury, Drew likes Utah’s chances this year, especially with the odds they have right now. Their odds to win the NBA championship currently sit at +750. He notes that “their home record [of] 25-3” in his argument, saying that it “is going to be very, very advantageous” to have home-court advantage in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have even better odds than the Jazz do. Led by the superstar tandem of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers are looking to bounce back after a very disappointing end to last season. They are 39-19 this season, good enough for third in the Western Conference. LA is getting hot at the right time, too, going 7-3 in their last ten games.
Nick is rolling with the Clippers this year. “I love the Rondo acquisition,” he mentions. Rajon Rondo, who was acquired at the deadline from Atlanta, played a huge role in the Lakers’ championship run last year. The Clippers have +550 odds to win it all right now, and Nick thinks Rondo can help get them over the hump.
The Jazz have the fourth-best odds to win, while the Clippers rank third. Rounding out the top seven is the Brooklyn Nets (+225), Los Angeles Lakers (+325), Milwaukee Bucks (+900), Philadelphia 76ers (+1200), and Phoenix Suns (+1400).
