Inside the Bruins Locker Room Following 6-2 Win Over Hurricanes in Game 2 (Videos)

The Boston Bruins talk about their game 2 beatdown of the Carolina Hurricanes.

BOSTON — The Boston Bruins talk about their Bruins 6-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The players at the podium were Matt Grzelcyk (2 goals) and Torey Krug (3 assists.)

Matt Grzelcyk: On his two goals tonight…

Yeah I think we were expecting a very physical game out of them. It’s something that we kind of had that experience going up against Columbus in the second round so we didn’t get phased by that game and I think we responded really well.  We knew how important it was to take advantage of home ice so I’m glad we got the win today.

On how special it was to score two goals today…

I think again it was kind of the importance of taking advantage of home ice and we came out ready to go and that’s been a strength of our team throughout the playoffs so. I think going into the game we were a little lackadaisical with the puck in game one in the second period and they were able to capitalize on a few chances so that’s something that we talked about. Obviously we wanted a full 60 minute effort and I thought we played really well in the second period as well. We kind of just didn’t allow them to get momentum as Tormey [Krug] alluded to and we were just able to play a pretty strong 60 minute game and we’re going to need a good effort in game three.

Zdeno Chara On the scoring being wide across the roster…

“Well it’s definitely nice that you don’t have to rely on three or four guys every night. You’re getting the contribution from everybody and that’s what you need. Different guys, different lines, stepping up in different games in different times. We got that so you know, I think that it’s nice to see players that aren’t known for scoring goals getting rewarded for hard work. You know, that’s something that at this time of the year nobody really cares who scores the goals, as long as we keep winning games.”

Tuukka Rask on if he feels for Petr Mrazek’s struggles…”No. It’s the game of hockey. We’ve all been there.”

Brad Marchand On the physical style of the game…

“That’s kind of what they do, I think they surprised us early. Later in the year they came in here after the deadline and they played pretty physical so we kind of expected that, they’ve been like that all series and all playoffs, it’s allowed them to be successful. We were ready for that game and the guys did a good job at bouncing back from some big hits early on, [Matt] Grzelcyk took a big one and scored a couple shifts later. Guys were feeling it tonight.”

Charlie McAvoy thinks this was the Bruins best game of the entire postseason…”I think tonight was a really good game for us. I think we played our game, we played to our culture and obviously we were able to break through and score some goals there and that’s good for everyone’s confidence. But it’s over now and we’re headed down there. We have a lot of respect for this team and we know that they’ll play a lot better next game.”

Head Coach Bruce Cassidy: On if this is as close to a 60-minute effort as you can get for a playoff game…

“Yeah, well we certainly…we elevated our game from Game 1. I don’t want go through the whole playoff series, but our start was good. They were physical, answered the bell. We didn’t give up much in the first. I think it was one tip scoring chance and generated some of our own. Took advantage of the power play opportunity and had the lead going into the first intermission. Always our goal, on-time start. Hopefully, with the lead. Extend the lead. Play winning hockey to finish the game. It’s kind of how we approach it every night, and I think, yeah, to answer your question it’s as close as I can recall.”

Danton Heinen on leaving Boston with two wins going to Carolina…

“Yeah, I thought we had a great game all around. One of our best efforts this playoffs, like 60 minutes. We took care of business at home. We know it’s a tough place to play in there, so we are going to have to be ready”
