FOXBORO — Up and down days are expected from NFL rookies as they try to learn complex schemes going up against high caliber competition. To say N’Keal Harry had a rough outing on Wednesday would be an understatement.
Harry dropped 3 balls during competitive 11-on-11 portion of practice.
“There were instances where he was getting open and he was just dropping the ball,” Lazar told Goodwill.” He got open against Stephon Gilmore late in practice on a nice ten yard out, ran a pretty good route, Brady put the ball right on him and it went right off of his hands.”
Lazar says that’s not the only area Harry has struggled.
“I think the one thing that stands out with me with N’Keal is he’s having a tough time lining up in the right place in this offense right now,” said Lazar. “We saw it over the weekend and saw it again today. You hear coaches getting on him about it, you could hear it from the stands.”
And while rookies are known to make mistakes in the early going, Lazar believes Harry needs to start showing some more consistency sooner than later.
“I know he’s a rookie, I know he’s going to be inconsistent,” Lazar said. “But this was the 32nd overall pick in the draft and a guy they have a lot riding on this season. Not just for the next four or five years. They need him this year so the consistency needs to be better.”
