20 years ago today, the New England Patriots surrendered their first, fourth, and seventh-round picks in exchange for a fifth-round pick, seventh-round pick the next year, and a head coach by the name of Bill Belichick.
Initially, the move was met with mixed reviews. But the bottom of the barrel Patriots needed a boost, and Robert Kraft thought that this man would provide it. Boy was he right.
Belichick is now the only coach in NFL history with six Super Bowl rings, 17 divisional titles, and 13 12-win seasons. Along with his other accolades, the case that this could go down as the “greatest trade of all-time in the National Football League,” or even the “greatest trade of all-time in American sports.”
