The Patriots dropped their season opener to the Seattle Seahawks 13-10 and while a lot may have went wrong for the Patriots in this defeat it wasn’t all bad for the New England Patriots players.
CLNS Media’s Taylor Kyles, BSJ’s Greg Bedard and SI’s Mike Kadlick take a look on the brighter side of this loss and point out players who shined in the loss.
Greg mentions how he was impressed by Patriots 2nd year OT Will Campbell who struggled against this Seahawks Defensive line in the Super Bowl.
“I thought he was really good…I thought he was great all summer and I talked about him and how you know vastly improved. He’s stronger his technique’s better…But I thought for Will Campbell to do what he did against that front that’s a really good sign for him.”
Taylor Kyles had high praise for the Patriots EDGE rush room who many thoughts might have been a major concern for the team coming into the season but Kyles was impressed by their play tonight:
“I thought he [Dremont Jones] made some key plays and did have a couple of pretty quality pressures and efforts.”
“Elijah Ponder had some nice flashes.”
Taylor also mentions he was impressed by Patriots Rookie Gabe Jacas:
“The fact that he [Gabe Jacas] played way more than I think anybody could have anticipated because you’re talking about a guy who in the preseason who looked borderline unplayable…I was very encouraged by what I saw from Gabe Jacas.”
Mike Kadlick praised the highest paid Cornerback in the NFL Christian Gonzalez who just inked a contract extension for his play coming of the heels of the new deal:
“He was great. He’s as advertised not a ton of flash plays. Maybe would have liked to see them matched up a little bit more on JSN…When called upon I thought Gonzalez was awesome.”
