Welcome to the CLNS WrestleMania 34 review special! Here I will be giving my thoughts on every match from the Kickoff show all the way to the main event. With this being one of the most stacked WrestleMania card in years, there was massive hype. Did it live up to it? Or did WrestleMania disappoint? Let’s discus!
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal (Kickoff Show)
Prediction: Big Cass
I came into this match looking for a surprise on the Kickoff Show and predicting that Big Cass would make his return. While that didn’t happen, and there was no sight of Big Cass all night there was a twist. Bray Wyatt returned and helped Woken Matt Hardy secure the win. Is this a new tag team, or is Bray only stringing along Matt? Only time will tell.
Winner: Woken Matt Hardy
Cruiserweight Championship — Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali (Kickoff Show)
Prediction: Mustafa Ali
Next up on the Kickoff Show we had the Cruiserweight championship match. With the quality matches Cedric and Mustafa had been having I was excited. Unfortunately this was a pretty poor match. Not too many great spots and for what they can do I was disappointed. Cedric ended up picking up the win with a Lumbar Check in about 10 minutes.
Winner: Cedric Alexander
WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal (Kickoff Show)
Prediction: Becky Lynch
This was almost beat for beat what I expected. There was a nice spot where all of the NXT ladies dominated for about 5 minutes which was unexpected. Bianca Belair hit an incredible 450 off the top and just as I said Bayley and Sasha were too involved with each other. My only mis step was picking Becky Lynch to get the W as Naomi tossed Bayley over for the win.
Intercontinental Championship — The Miz (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor
Prediction: Finn Balor
The first match of the main card is for the IC title and it did not disappoint. Seth Rollins entered dressed as the Night King from Game Of Thrones and from then on I was convinced he was going to win. There were some great spots like a frog splash breaking up a figure 4 and a Coup de Grace breaking up a pin. All in all these three started Mania off right. The finish was Seth hitting a curb stomp on Balor and then on Miz for the 3.
Winner: Seth Rollins
SmackDown Women’s Championship — Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Asuka:
Well ill just say it, the match I believed to be match of the night worthy was frankly a disappointment. Unfortunately this is a running theme on tonight’s card. While I was sure Asuka was going to win and she didn’t that is not why I’m disappointed. I’m disappointed because the finish was horrendous. Not only had Charlotte barely worked Asuka’s legs but when the figure 8 is applied it takes only mere seconds for Asuka to tap. Why? Why build up the streak for so long just to feed her to 1 figure 8 from Charlotte. Bad booking, bad finish, bad match.
Winner: Charlotte Flair
United States Championship — Randy Orton (c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev
Prediction: Randy Orton
From one poor match to the next. Now normally if the match is bad there is still a cool entrance or something interesting to take from a match. Not here, from Randy Orton phoning it in, to cutting off Bobby Roode’s entrance, this match was bad. To top it all off, the most over guy in the match (Rusev) takes the Khallas for the 3.
Winner: Jinder Mahal
Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle vs. Stephanie McMahon & Triple H
Prediction: Ronda Rousey and Kurt Angle
WHAT A MATCH! This is far and away match of the night. The crowd is into it, the performers were selling like there was no tomorrow and we even got inter-gender contact. Not only did Kurt Angle prove he can still put on an incredible match but damn has Ronda Rousey arrived in the WWE. For someone having their first match Ronda looks right at home, her in ring work was excellent. Ronda proved not only that she can actually go in the ring but can tell a great story. There were false finishes, Ronda destroyed HHH, this match had it all. Ronda Rousey is here to stay in the WWE and I for one am extremely excited to see what she can do.
Winner’s: Ronda Rousey and Kurt Angle
SmackDown Tag Team Championship — The Usos (c) vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers
Prediction: The New Day
Going out on limbs for WrestleMania sure has led to a great fall. Coming onto this match 1 for 6 in my predictions I was none too confident. The way the Bludgeon Brothers have been booked through this program made me think the WWE was setting us up for a swerve but with all the other craziness from the night this was probably the most predicable outcome. Not only do the Bludgeon Brothers go over but it’s basically a squash match.
Winner’s: The Bludgeon Brother’s
The Undertaker vs. John Cena
Prediction: The Undertaker
Throughout the night they have shown John Cena at ringside watching the matches as a fan. That is until a referee came down and whispered to Cena. Cena sprints to the back and now were here. After a no show by the Undertaker, Elias comes out and is quickly squashed by Cena. As he goes to the back the gong strikes. The Undertaker’s hat and coat are in the ring. Lightning strikes and the gear disappears. The Undertaker is here for a match with John Cena. With Cena in disbelief Taker squashes him in 3 minutes for the win. Not only does this mean the Undertaker is back but look for Cena vs. Taker 2 next year at WrestleMania 35.
Winner: The Undertaker
Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Prediction: Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon
This was a solid match and honestly one of the only that told a complete story throughout its length. With the return of Daniel Bryan they could just have him run through both Sami and Kevin but they built to it. Shane sold for the majority of the match and Daniel made the save and heroic comeback. A phenomenal story and incredible booking mad Bryan’s comeback truly memorable. In other news with Sami and Kevin being “fired” look for them to be on Raw tonight.
Winner’s: Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon
Raw Women’s Championship — Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax:
Prediction: Nia Jax
When you are a PG company and the angle involves a bully, the bully is going to lose. Nia Jax picked up the win after dominating both Alexa and Mickie James through the entirety of the match. Not only is this a win for Nia but for men and women everywhere who are bullied because of how they look. This match conveyed a strong body positive image and being proud of who you are. In an industry that used to be all about how ripped you were or how good you looked this was truly a historic moment.
Winner: Nia Jax
WWE Championship — AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura
Sometimes with dream matches they end up disappointing, not because they are bad but because you know how good they can be. This is the case here, by no means is this a bad match, however it was very slow and underwhelming. The match did pickup in the last five minutes but overall it was a disappointment. It was not a dream match but much more of a way to start a feud. After only 1 styles clash, Shinsuke is down and out. Then after the match Shinsuke presents the WWE Championship to AJ as a sign of respect but low blows him. A heel turn for Shinsuke is now a full go as things will get interesting from here.
Winner: AJ Styles
Raw Tag Team Championship — The Bar (c) vs. Braun Strowman & TBD:
Prediction: Braun Strowman and (Samoa Joe/Bray Wyatt/Elias)
This was atrocious. The small child named Nicholas who is a referee’s son was Braun’s partner. This not only buried the tag team division but is a disgrace to professional wrestling and that’s all I will say. Don’t watch the match, skip over it. I can only hope this is fixed tonight on Raw.
Winner’s: Braun Stroman and Nicholas
Universal Championship — Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns
Prediction: Roman Reigns
I have never been so happy to be wrong. With rumors swirling of a Brock Lesnar UFC return I thought this was a slam dunk. An easy choice of Brock loosing and Roman once again going over. Well do we have some interesting storylines here. After hitting 6 F-%’s on Roman and busting him open the hard way (with 3 punches to the head) brock Lesnar is STILL the Universal Champion. According to reports after the match there was an altercation between Vince McMahon and Brock. The rumor states the reason for the altercation may have been Brock going off script. With that being said it will be interesting to see what happens on the craziest raw of the year tonight.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
Well, all in all it was a great night. I have to say from a pure fan perspective I will always enjoy WrestleMania. While this may not have been the best of all time it sure was a solid outing from the WWE. With just as many questions as answers, the WWE sure will keep us guessing and with the biggest Raw of the year tonight, I can’t wait.
Match Of The Night: Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle vs. Stephanie McMahon & HHH
Prediction Record: 5-9
