The question and big topic of discussion this offseason has been how will Marco Sturm handle this debate of playing the younger guys vs the veterans.
When asked about it Marco Sturm told Evan this about playing the younger players right away:
“I’m not a guy who will give them everything right away.”

“I’m not a guy who will give them everything right away…Gotta earn it first because there is a lot of other guys, they already done that work and they compete really hard every day.” pic.twitter.com/UdHK4Uio8y

Marco explained why everything must be earned and slowly as they earn it more and more will be granted to them.
Marco gives the example of how last season at times Bruins assistant coach Steve Spott would suggest getting Fraser Minten out on the power play.
Marco explain how he believed he could do it but at first he was not allowed to and once Sturm felt he was he allowed him to take that next step and give him more responsibility.
“There are little steps that I have to hit, and there are boxes that have they have to check before, before I give him the big cookie.”
Marco explained how to him it doesn’t matter what round you are picked in and everything must be earned and just because you’re a 1st round pick doesn’t mean you will be immediately be given chances over veterans:
“Gotta earn it first because there is a lot of other guys, they already done that work, and they compete really hard every day and just because there’s a first rounder coming in.”
