The Celtics kicked off the 2022-23 NBA season with a home matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. In addition to the introduction of their new city jerseys, the Boston Celtics honored late Celtics and NBA legend Bill Russell in a heartwarming ceremony celebrating his life, accomplishments and impact. Boston pulled off a fantastic 126-117 win over the Sixers, and notched the first win of Joe Mazzulla’s head coaching career.
“He’s just an overall good person,” said Jayson Tatum of Joe Mazzulla, “As much as I do on the court, he cares about the things that I do off the court. We’ve had a great relationship ever since he’s been here. I ain’t crying, I just got something in my eye.”
On getting his first win, Mazzulla said “It was a proud moment I think starting with the Bill Russell ceremony.” He continued, “I pride myself in the Boston fans and the city of Boston. When they’re cheering for you, it means you’re doing something right.”
