The Celtics kick off their road trip with a stop in New York to take on the Brooklyn Nets. Marcus Smart was reportedly missing the game against Brooklyn due to a left hip contusion sustained against the Miami Heat in Boston’s overtime loss. Without their lead point guard, Boston’s offense slipped into iso ball, and led to one of their lowest scoring quarters in the third. However, Boston seemed to bring up the pressure on defensive, especially against the offensive duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

The Celtics rattled off 11 steals and 9 blocks as they proceeded to force Kevin Durant into 8 turnovers on the night. After all of the talk about their offense being dominant, Boston locked down on the defensive end right when they needed to, and it was a big part of how they won.
