New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who is returning to the field this year after suffering a torn ACL last preseason, has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances. Edelman plans to appeal the suspension.

Edelman has been a regular participant at Patriots OTAs and minicamp over the past few weeks, even speaking to the media a couple of times.

If the suspension holds up, Edelman will miss New England’s first four games of the regular season against the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Detroit Lions and the Miami Dolphins. He would still be eligible to participate in training camp and the preseason.
