Can the Bruins Break the Single Season Points Record?

The Bruins have five games left in their historic regular season. Through 77 games, they’re 60-12-5, and have already clinched the President’s Trophy with a week left in the season, and are poised to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The NHL record for points in a season is 125, set by the Montreal Canadiens in 1976-77. Boston is seven points away with five games remaining on their schedule. Can they break it? Our exclusive wagering partners at FanDuel Sportsbook think so. They need to get to 63 wins to do so. Here are their odds to do it:

Bruins Regular Season Wins

Over 62.5             -390

Under 62.5         +280

The over is juiced to -390, meaning you have to pay up to get the o62.5 number.

Boston faces off against the second-place Maples Leafs tonight at TD Garden with a 7pm puck drop. Prior to the season, the Leafs were the favorite to win the Atlantic division and the Bruins were relative longshots.

Let’s take a look back in time to what was expected (by me) of these Bruins prior to the season:

Boston will look to benefit from the return of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci in 2022. Bergeron was at the end of his contract last year and did not renew right away as he contemplated retirement, but he ultimately signed a one-year deal to return to the team on August 8th.

On the exact same day, longtime Bruin David Krecji also agreed to a one-year deal with the team as he returned from a year long sabbatical in the Czech Republic.

If Jeremy Swayman can keep it together between the pipes, the old heads can turn into their young selves, and Montgomery can hold the team accountable the way Bruce Cassidy did – then I too expect the Bruins to be a playoff team this coming season.

Well, they’ve become a playoff team, and then some. Boston is the overwhelming favorite to win the Stanley Cup at +380 and frankly, it would be considered a massive disappointment if they didn’t come away with their seventh championship in mid-June.
