The Celtics agreed to a contract extension with head coach Joe Mazzulla on Friday. Mazzulla and the team held mutual interest in addressing his long term future with the team following various necessary financial and roster moves that culminated in a full 21-man roster for training camp coming together for now this past week.
Brad Stevens indicated that Mazzulla had multiple seasons left on his contract following speculation regarding his last reported extension in 2023 that this was Mazzulla’s final year under contract. Michael Holley indicated on NBC Sports Boston that Mazzulla had a team option for 2026-27.
Mazzulla enters his fourth season as Boston Celtics head coach following his ascension to interim head coach following Ime Udoka’s suspension in 2022. He led Boston to the 2024 championship and is a combined 182-64 (74%) in the regular season, the greatest winning percentage in NBA history, and 33-17 (66%) in the playoffs.
