Just how aggressive are the Celtics and team President Danny Ainge willing to be to improve their middling team prior to the NBA Trade deadline?
It appears the answer is very aggressive, for the right player.
Appearing on the A-List Podcast on CLNS Media with A. Sherrod Blakely and Kwani Lunis, Pistons beat writer James Edwards III of the Athletic said the Celtics are doing all they can to acquire Pistons forward Jerami Grant.
“I believe the Celtics have offered multiple first for him (Grant),” said Edwards. “I don’t know what multiple means, it could be two it could be three.”
Edwards however believes Grant – who is having a career year in his first season as a Piston – is not someone Detroit is looking to move. Nor does Grant want to leave.
“We were just on a zoom with Troy Weaver the Pistons GM, and he basically said there are guys who are going to be here for awhile but no one is untouchable,” Edward said of Weaver. “I don’t think Grant is on another team starting in April.”
The Celtics of course are searching for someone to plug the hole created after Gordon Hayward departed in free agency. Grant would fit that perfectly. A 6’8″ scorer who can create his own shot and defend. Landing Grant could very well put the Celtics back in the NBA finals conversation.
“Boston seems like a team that is very very very desperate to get him,” Edwards told Blakely and Lunis. “I don’t think a team is willing to go where it takes to get him.”
