Shocking Upset of No. 1 Duke Earns Boston College’s Ky Bowman ACC Player Of Week

CHESTNUT HILL —  The stunning upset Boston College’s men’s basketball team pulled off Saturday at Conte Forum produced its first dividend of national recognition Monday.

Fresh off his near triple-double in Boston College’s 89-84 win over top-ranked Duke, Ky Bowman was named the ACC Player of the Week.

Bowman was one assist short of a triple-double in the win over No. 1 Duke, registering season-highs with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists in the victory – BC’s first over Duke since 2009 and the Eagles’ first victory over a No. 1 ranked team since 2014.

The sophomore connected on 12-of-24 of his shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers.  Eight of his season-high 10 rebounds came on the defensive end.

He scored 15 of his 30 points in the first half; 10 points in the final 10 minutes of play; and six in the final five minutes of regulation as the Eagles outscored the top-ranked Blue Devils, 18-10, to seal the victory.

The 30 points were the most scored in a single-game by an opposing player vs. Duke this season and the most by a Blue Devil opponent since Feb. 18, 2017 (John Collins, Wake Forest – 31).  The 10 rebounds and nine assists were each the second-most registered by an opposing player in a single-game vs. Duke this season.

On the defensive end, Bowman was part of a BC collective that held the Duke backcourt to 19-of-45 (42.2%) shooting from the floor, including 7-of-25 (28%) from beyond the arc.

It marks Bowman’s fourth career 30-point performance in 42 career games played – and third in ACC play through 19 career conference contests.

ACC basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel.  This marks Bowman’s third career ACC weekly award.  Last season, the Havelock, N.C. native was a two-time ACC Rookie of the Week selection.  He becomes the first Boston College player to earn ACC Player of the Week accolades since Dec. 19, 2016 when teammate Jerome Robinson was honored by the conference office.

Additionally, Bowman earned ACC and National Player of Week honors from collegesportsmadness.com.

Bowman and the Eagles return to action tomorrow night – Tuesday, Dec. 12 – when they host Columbia at Conte Forum at 7 p.m. – Buy Tickets.
