Steve Nash was interviewed pregame before the Nets took on the Celtics in Game 2 of their first-round series. He talked about the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death, potential adjustments for Game 2, and how the Nets should focus on defense.
Today marked the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death. Nash stopped his press conference at the start to make this statement: “It’s been a year since the tragic killing of George Floyd… just wanted to say my condolences to his family, that social justice is a very, very important issue in our country and our world… the more people that are talking about it… are only going to help us be a better society.”
Nash also spoke about potential adjustments from Game 1 to Game 2: “You could warrant a lot of adjustments at times and other times you’re sort of lying in wait… you try to predict and project… but that’s not always I think possible.”
Lastly, Nash commented on the Nets’ focus on defense in the series: “I think to be a contender, to be a successful playoff team, you have to concentrate on both sides of the ball… shooting comes and goes, but you can play with the same effort defensively… it’s important for us to continue to dig in defensively.”
