How to Incorporate a Traditional Style in Your Home

There’s a reason traditional designs have retained their elegance and style throughout the decades—they’re classy, beautiful, and timeless. If you want to add sophisticated flair to your home with traditional styles, look no further.

Read on to learn how to update your home with classic elements.

It’s All About Color & Patterns

As much as we love bold, bright colors and neon hues, they don’t mesh well with more traditional styles. Focus on incorporating warm neutrals like:

  • Beige
  • Tan
  • Cream
  • Brown
  • Taupe

As a general rule, try to avoid harsh contemporary colors like black, white, and neons. Keep in mind that traditional color schemes tend to be complementary rather than contrasting.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t add pops of other colors or accents here and there, but it’s important to have a palette in mind before you start choosing paint colors or big pieces of furniture.

In terms of patterns, less is usually more. Avoid patterns that are loud or geometric, and instead, stick to classics like paisley or subtle florals. It’s important to think about making your colors and patterns flow from room to room, so as you pick your palette, consider everything from your man cave to your kitchen.

Leave it to the Experts

We know you have a great eye for design, but we could all use a little help sometimes. Thankfully, you don’t have to hire an interior designer to put together a room that seamlessly combines the best elements of traditional home decor.

A great hack for creating a gorgeous space that looks like it was custom-designed is to take advantage of traditional furniture collections. Purchasing pieces as part of a collection means your items are designed to work together. Choosing a traditional line will save you the time and effort you’d otherwise spend trying to match separate pieces. You can always add personal touches with tasteful accessories later on.

Add Traditional Style to Modern Essentials

There’s nothing traditional about a flat-screen TV or a computer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate these everyday items into your traditional aesthetic.

Take a look at some creative ways to make your modern necessities blend perfectly with your classic decor:

  • Choose a media console with doors
  • Conceal unsightly cords with special cord clips or tubing
  • Hide printers, scanners, and other accessories in a desk

Remember, This is a Long-Term Investment

There’s something fun and fresh about trendy, of-the-moment pieces, but they go out of style almost as quickly as they came in. Part of the appeal of traditional decor is that it’s timeless, so you don’t need to worry as much about keeping up with fads.

You’re better off spending a little more money now with the knowledge that won’t have to redecorate anytime soon. Think of it this way—you could spend $100 dollars on a trendy rug you’ll be sick of in a year, or you could spend $500 on a rug you’re going to keep for the next ten.

Like any good investment, the money you spend now will pay off later.

Your Home Will Never Go Out of Style

You’re well on your way to creating the home you’ve always dreamed about. The best part is that you’ll be able to enjoy your timeless, traditional style for years to come. Just like a little black dress or a custom-made suit, some things never go out of style. Your friends and family are going to love your classy, comforting space—look forward to frequent visitors!

Your home is something you should take pride in, and we’re so excited for you to get decorating!
