Evan Fournier spoke in his postgame interview following the Celtics tough loss against the Miami Heat. Fournier refused to make the excuse of a matinee game for Boston’s low first half energy. “1:00 game is not an excuse at all… we just have to be better individually, period.”
Fournier had a great performance and seemed to look more comfortable, and Fournier admitted “The more I play, the more familiar I’m going to be with the offense and the defense… I’m getting more comfortable out there… I’m going to do a lot better and I have to do more.”
After expending energy to crawl back into the game, the Celtics lost steam and couldn’t close out the comeback. “When you just fix things by being more aggressive and turning it up, it just shows a lack of physicality in my opinion, and that’s something we can’t have… talking about it is not enough at that point… in many games now we’ve kind of started slow and have had to expend a lot of energy trying to comeback into games… we definitely have to do better on that part.”
As a newcomer, he doesn’t have any insight or solution for the team’s struggles. “It’s something that’s from within, it starts with yourself” Fournier said, “we all wish we had the answers.” Fournier stated that “The main problem right now… starting games better, to be honest… every game is different, you have different challenges every game… we have the tools, we have the talent, we have the players… it’s just a matter of doing it, stop talking about it, just doing it.”
In terms of team chemistry and the team playing better as a unit, Fournier said “I can only talk about myself… of course I have to pay more attention… make sure I understand everything… in order to play well, and to be consistent every night, you have to be an expert on what the team does… for myself, that’s the answer.”
