TD Garden, Boston, Mass. — Tristan Thompson was interviewed after the Celtics clinched the 7th seed with a win over the Wizards.
On Jayson Tatum’s big night, Thompson said “He [Jayson Tatum] went and put pressure on the rim… he was getting to the free-throw line a lot… for him tonight he had it rolling, he’s a stud… he’s got to set the tone early for us.”
With Robert Williams potentially missing time, Thompson said he’s ready for whatever minutes he may be needed for. “I’m prepared for that… I came here for a reason, I came here to play in the playoffs… I prepare myself for these moments all season long… it’s a next-man-up mentality… I’m ready.”
On what can help Boston prepare for a tough matchup against Brooklyn, Thompson said “Study, preparation, I think the preparation is key… I think that’s how you try to gain an edge… I’ve got to watch film, K.Y.P., know your personnel… those little things count in the playoffs… you got to know that little stuff going in.”
With Kyrie Irving, there’s a great deal of history between Irving and the Celtics as well as Thompson and Irving. “I mean Kyrie is one hell of a player… he’s super talented… my years with him I’ll never take for granted… I know how much he’s going to be prepared for this series… he’s going to come with a killer mentality.”
